چکیده
F infect ions have been mentioned in ancient scriptures of Hinduism e.g. Atharva Veda and also in the writings of Hippocrates who described mouths affected with aphthous ulcerations which is now recognized as oral thrush. The earliest recognition of fungi as a cause of disease came from discovery of infection in silk worms by “budding globules of vegetable kingdom capable of reproducing themselves ( later identified as Saccharomyces cervicae) by Bassi in 1837. His seminal work inspired many cl inicians to invest igate fungi as e t io logica l agent for human infec t ions . S ince then many dermatologists, surgeons, g y n e c o l o g i s t s , p h y s i c i a n s , botanists, chemists and scientists from various other fields have contr ibuted immensely to the systematic development of medical mycology.

Diagnostic virology laboratory within a microbiology setting.
The virology section at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Connecticut, is not a separate laboratory division but is a part of the microbiology division and is supervised by the same personnel who supervise bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, and serology. Current volume is over 1,000 cultures yearly with 12 to 24 percent positive. Isolates are confirmed and typed by the Connecticut...

متن کاملVaccine Candidates against Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae: a Review
Nonencapsulated, nontypeable Hemophilus influenzae (NTHi) remains an important cause of acute otitis and respiratory diseases in children and adults. NTHi bacteria are one of the major causes of respiratory tract infections, including acute otitis media, cystic fibrosis, and community-acquired pneumonia among children, especially in developing countries. The bacteria can also cause chronic dise...
متن کاملMolecular Cloning and Immunogenicity Evaluation of PpiC, GelE, and VS87_01105 Proteins of Enterococcus faecalis as Vaccine Candidates
Background: Among the enterococci strains, Enterococcus faecalis is considered as one of the important nosocomial pathogens affecting immunocompromised patients. In this study, the immunogenicity of PpiC, GelE, and VS87_01105 proteins against enterococcal infection was investigated in a mice model. Methods: The genes encoding these proteins were cloned into pET21a expression vector, and the rec...

This review presents a brief outline of our current knowledge of the structure and chemical composition of the outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), originating from the surface of Gram negative bacteria including their outer membrane proteins and lipopolysaccharides. Moreover, the functional roles and applications of OMVs in medical research such as OMV-based vaccines, OMV adjuvants properties, OMV ...
